Piece of Cake Guessing Game

Daylight was still blanketing the sky outside of Vald’s family manor, illuminating the large old garden surrounded by vintage black iron rod fencing, and cobblestone from the Victorian era.
Aside from the few inhabitants who enjoyed the daytime being in the garden, it was mostly vacant, as the main occupants of this old manor were night-dwellers, and did not enjoy much sunlight.
Slade was in the kitchen with  the curtains only partly drawn to let a little bit of sunlight trickle through the old wooden framed windows. Golden light seemed to reflect off his shimmering off-white and
raven-black dipped paws while he chopped dark chocolate confectionery on an olive wood cutting board.
Off to his right was a large antique ebony wood table draped with a white lace tablecloth
from the same era as most of the antiques of this house. At the table sat two of Slade’s good friends and bandmates, playing a game of arm wrestling while grinning at each other in amusement.
They both were clearly waiting for the other one to possibly slip up so one can win. They’ve been at this for two hours now and  it was slowly getting on the vampire cinna’s nerves.

Without much of a warning he slammed the cutting knife down on the cutting board initiating a loud sound that echoed in the spacious room, startling both of the boys.
This caused one to win the game as he took the opportunity to shove the other cinna’s paw into the table with a loud ‘fwamp’! “WIN”, Vega gave a short loud laugh, then stuck his tongue out at Zyan.
The demon cinna rolled his eyes in response then crossed his arms “yeah okay you win, but only because Slade totally sabotaged me, fucker”. Zyan looked at Slade with narrowed eyes,
a deep shade of red like the singular wavy horn on his head.

Slade didn’t even glance at the other one as he continued cutting the confectionery chocolate casually as if nothing happened. Although his back was facing Zyan, he had a faint smirk smeared
on his pale face as he scraped the dark chocolate shavings into a large glass bowl for later decoration for this dessert. Zyan’s eyes soon turned away from the vampire’s back then back to his bandmate
who just defeated him at arm wrestling, only to be more annoyed with the fact Vega was still grinning at him the same way as before. “Look I know I’m attractive but that doesn’t mean you have to eyeball
me like that”, he teased as he leaned back in his chair.

Vega scoffed, “ I mean yeah you’re okay, like a 5 out of 10 maybe”, teasing back while making a hand gesture one would describe as ‘so so’. The two teased each other for a bit until Slade
began pulling more ingredients out of the cupboards and fridge. He placed them all on the counter and began mixing them according to his recipe he had pinned on the cabinet on his right.
This caught the attention of the two friends again, “hey what are you making anyways Slade?” Slade glanced only once over his shoulder at the crimson furred bandmate of his, “What’s it to you?”
Vega raised his eyebrows and narrowed his eyes with a look of amusement, “sassy as usual, come on I just want to know if I can eat it later”, he pressed further in an almost childish pleading manner.
However, the vampire wasn’t having it, “shush, it’s supposed to be a surprise, also…who said it was for your consumption?”

Vega frowned, “Whaaat?? you saying we don’t get to eat whatever sweets you’re making? Oh that's evil, and here I thought Zyan was the evil one of us”, he gave a short look in the other one’s direction.
Zyan raised one eyebrow and gave him a look that said ‘are you dumb or something?’. Slade only rolled his eyes again out of annoyance, “by the dark lord, you are extra annoying today”,
he turned  his head fully now in the direction of Vega, his dark blue eyes looking stern “All I’m going to tell you is that it’s one of my favorite things to bake and it’s for someone who has their birthday tomorrow”.
With that, he turned back  to face the counter top and continued to prepare this mystery dessert.
Pouting and resigning, Vega just laid his head on the table bored and stared at nothing in particular
for the next twenty minutes as Slade finally popped a filled metal cake form into the heated black iron oven.  A small smile was present again on the moody vampire’s face as he began to prepare the icing now. Vega perked his head up as he watched the smaller one of the friend group pull another box of food colouring out of the cabinet. “Oh wait, I think I might know what it is!! Can I guess?”
Having now a vague idea of what it could be based on a few small details he remembered the last time Slade baked something  for a birthday of a family member.

Tilting his head to one side then to the other he shrugged, “alright sure, go ahead, but do it with less volume please”, he spoke while adding cream cheese and sugar to a large bowl.
Vega pumped his fist in glee and then scratched his chin, lost in thought, “hmm…could it be…. German chocolate cake?” Slade shook his head but gave no hints while stirring the mixture with a golden whisk.
“Chocolate beer cake? No wait - is it a pastry instead?” Vega continued with the guesses until Zyan finally joined in on the guessing game as well. “Black forest cake? Wait no, that doesn’t have cream cheese in it”, he trailed off as he leaned back now also lost in thought, arms crossed tightly against his chest as he fiddled around with his lip piercing.

Another hour rolled by and they surprisingly still did not guess correctly what dessert Slade was preparing that he seemed to enjoy making. “Alright I think I got it”, said Vega for the sixth time before Slade
pulled the dessert back out of the fridge, he had been cooling it for the icing process. It was definitely a cake, so the pastry idea was out of the question and the two friends knew that after Slade had retrieved it from the oven earlier during their game.  Slade was beginning to ice the cake when Vega asked from the table “Is it a type of velvet cake maybe?” Slade stopped icing for just a moment but then continued,
not wanting to waste any time on preparing  the ordered birthday cake. Once he was finished he placed the cake onto a decorative silver plate temporarily and then prepared a box for it.
“Alright,
you are correct with that, but what kind?” Slade finally let Vega have a response to all the guessing other than being silent the whole time, only giving him occasional vague nods in response.
“SCORE okay um, red velvet?” Vega had a look of anticipation on his face now, eagerly waiting for a response so he could have another ‘win’. Zyan had already given up and was heading outside to have a smoke. Slade could already catch a wisp of smoke from the corner of his eye as he could see the patio from the kitchen window. “Nope”, he simply said as he pointed at the cake’s black coloured frosting.

“Damn, I didn’t see what colour you used in the cake though, uhh black?? No wait- blue!!” Finally he got a nod of approval from Slade. “Holy shit I am a dumbass,
I could have guessed that from the beginning, you literally only wear black and blue, your room is black and blue, I am -”, he cut himself off with a big and pinched the bridge of his forehead,
feeling like a fool.
Pleased that he could annoy Vega as much as he had been annoying him for the past couple hours, and additionally managing to make a fool out of him in some way.
He pulled his smartphone out of his pocket to text his customer that the cake was finished and was going to be delivered by a colleague of his. In this case, Zyan,
because Vega was not trustworthy being left alone with the cake.

With that, Slade sent Zyan off into town with the cake encased in a decorated black box that had a fanged skull sticker stuck on the lid, signaturing Slade’s brand.
Zyan gave a small wave with his free pawed hand, a half burnt cigarette sticking between his lips, as he walked off in the direction of town, leaving Slade and Vega at the manor doorstep.
“Be back in thirty”, he left as Slade took a break in the shaded part of the patio, also having a smoke break along with Vega, who basked in the sunlight.
